Should You Hire a Pro to Maintain Your Artificial Lawn? Here’s When It Pays Off

If you’re thinking about installing an artificial lawn or you’ve already taken the plunge, one on of the things that’s probably sold it to you is the lack of maintenance required.

Sure, we all like the look of a green lawn outside our homes, but any garden owner will tell you that achieving a decent-quality lawn is only possible with weekly mowing, weeding, overseeding, and fertilising. And, let’s face it, that’s a commitment too far for many of us.

That’s where artificial lawns present themselves as an alluring solution. You can avoid all the maintenance tasks associated with a real lawn, while still enjoying something that looks and feels pretty much the same.

Even so, fake grass still takes some looking after, and some of these jobs are better left to the experts. Here, we’re discussing when you should (and shouldn’t) hire a pro to maintain your artificial lawn.

When to Hire a Professional Artificial Turf Cleaner

Most experts will tell you to hire a professional artificial turf cleaning company, like https://www.dirtyturf.com/, for deep cleaning aroun once a year.

Many fake lawn cleaning tasks are quick and easy to handle yourself. But with your regular brushing and hosing-down, you won’t be able to provide the same level of thorough cleaning as an expert with specialist equipment and cleaners.

In short, if you want to keep your artificial lawn in the best condition for as long as possible, it’s well worth getting it deep-cleaned by a professional once every 12 months (maybe even more often if your lawn gets heavy use).

When You Shouldn’t Hire a Professional Artificial Turf Cleaner

For your regular cleaning tasks, there’s no need to hire a professional artificial turf cleaner.

Things like hosing down and brushing take just a few minutes and are generally handled by the homeowner. In this case, it’s cheapest and easiest to go the DIY route rather than hiring a professional.

If you’re not sure how to clean artificial turf, there are plenty of helpful guides and videos online that can walk you through the process. The good news is that the cleaning tasks required are significantly easier than any maintenance work for a real lawn – there’s no putting your back out with a heavy lawn mower or strimmer, for one thing.

Takeaway

So, to summarize:

  • Definitely book your artificial lawn in for a professional clean if you haven’t deep-cleaned it in over a year or it’s been subjected to heavy foot traffic or extreme weather.
  • For all other smaller, everyday tasks, you don’t need an expert. You or a family member should generally be able to handle these tasks.

If in doubt, your best bet is to contact a professional turf maintenance company in your area. They can assess your lawn and make recommendations based on the specific turf type, as well as drainage conditions, the local climate, and how often your lawn is used.
