On average, we humans spend 26 years of our lives sleeping! That’s one-third of a healthy lifespan! Moreover, we spend 7 years just trying to fall asleep, up to 33 years in bed! Considering how much time we spend there, that bed had better be as comfortable as we can make it! Looking at it that way, making your bed the cozy place it should be takes on a new light!
The most important component of a bed for any sleepyhead has got to be the bed sheets. They form that crucial layer between us, the mattress, and any other covers like blankets and comforters, so they must be luxuriously soft and pleasant to the touch, especially considering they will be in contact with our entire body’s skin!
So, how do we choose the best bamboo sheets to make those years in the sack go by pleasantly?
Let’s consider the following often-asked questions:
What’s the perfect material for sheets? Yes, silk is nice and smooth but also dense and can be a bit stuffy. It’s best to have a material that breathes. Because of this, cotton comes out on top (and bottom!) as the best material for bed sheets. Our favorite type of cotton is 100 percent Egyptian cotton; its long fibers are used to make sheets that are light, airy, pleasantly soft to the touch but still durable and long-lasting.
How important is thread count? The thread count measures the number of threads woven into a square inch of fabric that is sometimes used to indicate a bed sheet’s comfort and strength. Unfortunately, this can be unreliable; although the high thread is positive, the cotton type is the most reliable quality indicator.
Is Sateen or Percale the better choice? The answer is neither since it comes down to your tastes. Sateen sheets are extremely soft and heavier, featuring a satiny and smooth texture. Percale sheets are made from light, matte weaves with a crisp texture that has a cooling effect and is a great choice for hotter weather. Both types look great so that they will fit your bedroom’s decor. The best thing to do is to give them a good feel at the store to decide which you prefer!
What’s the best option for kids? Kids aren’t as picky as adults when it comes to the finer things, and they can be hard on their bedsheets, so the best option is an easy-to-care-for cotton-polyester blend that can handle the abuse but is still nice and comfy.
A 90/10 percent blend is advisable; it comes out of the dryer crisp and clean but never stiff or abrasive. Avoid sheets that are more than 30 percent synthetic; they can feel tough and unpleasant to the touch and don’t breathe well, making the bed too hot.
